Great single. It makes sense that Morrissey would have appreciated Laura Nyro’s music and songwriting. I’d heard of his love of Joni Mitchell, but never heard him mention Nyro, and I’m happy she was on his radar. He manages to balance Nyro’s desperation with an almost sunny feel to Wedding Bell Blues. This will probably never make the charts in the states because he doesn’t shy away from keeping the pronoun true to the original. Otherwise, I think it might even have stood a chance at a top ten. The b side, Brow of My Beloved is a non album track, and it’s beautiful in a more somber feel. The clear yellow pressing is quiet and clear; not a pop or crackle. Is it me, or do clear vinyls make better pressings? This is the first single on vinyl I’ve bought in decades, and I felt like a kid again playing it over and over like I did back then.
