Polycarbonates are a group of thermoplastic polymers containing carbonate groups in their chemical structures. Polycarbonates used in engineering are strong, tough materials, and some grades are optically transparent. They are easily worked, molded, and thermoformed. Strength/Durability Polycarbonate is 250 times stronger than glass and is virtually indestructible. Because of its impact resistance, polycarbonate is a favorable choice for protection from extreme weather, flying debris, or vandalism. Light Transmission Light transmission is the technical term for transparency to light. Acrylic has a 80 - 90 percent light transmittance rate. Maintenance Rinse immediately with clean, cold water. Do not apply cleaners in direct sunlight. Never use sharp objects, wipers (squeegees) or razors on polycarbonate. Do not clean with gasoline.
