The light pendant hangs on two wires which must be cut to the right length for your specific installation. Once the wires are cut, they will have to be stripped so that they can be attached to existing house wiring. The wires are too thick for the typical stripping tool, so you have to use it carefully to make the cuts for stripping.Setting the wires to equal lengths is also not easy, since the wires were tightly wrapped for shipping and have some waviness in them even if they are straightened out. Adjust the wires to equal lengths before you mount the light, since it is impossible to adjust the wires once the light is mounted in place. The top plate that sits up at the ceiling is long in one direction but fairly narrow in the other, so if the cut-out in the ceiling sheetrock around the electrical box is not perfect and happens to be slightly oversized, the plate will not cover it. We had to make a makeshift patch to cover the space between the cut-out and the plate. The manufacturer provides a circular mounting plate with slots in it. This plate is to be mounted onto the electrical box. Two screws which are dropped into the slots in the round plate will hold the light's top plate in place. There is no built-in way to regulate the length of these screws. We had to use additional nuts and washers to set the screws at the right length so that the top plate could be snugged up against the ceiling.Overall it was a frustrating experience and took much more time that we expected. I would be very wary of reviews which state that installation of this light was a breeze. However, with all of the above being said, we like the light and how it looks over our kitchen island.
